I think I might be almost kinda done with being rillyrilly academic for the spring. I've been completely bogged down with that for the past couple of weeks; but now it is (mostly) (I hope) done! This should mean that I'll have more time for arts and writes again - and I have stuff I need to finish and get started on! Such as:

- Finishing the third part of Seidmadr
- Rounding out the HiNaBN bromance FST (and the other ten or so) that I have lying around
- Maiming fingers while trying to turn safety reflector shards and old CDs into some sort of a weird, semi-functional junk art installation

Before that, though, I'm going to kick back with a cup of tea and a thick comic book set in Star Trek's mirror universe. Oooh, mirror universe, leave your evil beard on. <3

Oh gawd, study report. So much text, so little time. Love it. Hate it. Obsess about it with study partners. Go into twitchy hyperdrive over it. Get tiny, tiny flashes where feel almost like a real scientist. Then remember that haven't eaten or slept and back is starting to seize up from lack of movement.

ALSO THIS IS FUNNY AND VERY TRUE: fuckyeahfanficflamingo.tumblr.…

Results: The liberal Right is the biggest party (why?), the Democrats (who aren't really that leftist but there you are) come in second and the rising star of the nationalist Right (True Finns; the name should give you an idea) came third, being massive enough to force the other parties to deal with them.

I'm trying hard to remain optimistic about this. I start out thinking about how we might get stricter progressive taxation, investments in public services and improved welfare if the nationalists gang up with the democrats, but my imagination keeps getting derailed into the "men should be men and women should be women", "the glorious history of the nation must be taught properly in schools", and "poor economy is the immigrants' fault" land.

We might end up having two right-wing parties in the government now. Somehow, the idea of them butting heads isn't as amusing as I wish it was. :(

Gymmin'

1 min read
I've taken up the hobby of going to gym and swimming. There's this wonderful little public swimming hall on the other side of the town and by now, most of the roads are free of ice, if not exactly dry, so I can get there by bike. I still ache in a number of places after practice, but for someone who's used to aching due to overly sedentary lifestyle, it's a novel and positive thing. Interestingly enough, the regular exercise seems to be helping keep my mood level as well.

I am a pretty crap gym-goer, though. I manage not to maim myself with the equipment, but that's about it. Still, it's fun. :D

Also, look at me writing all this fanfic! Pfff, one of these days I might even get inspired enough to go back to one of my original projects. That would be quite something.

There is a turdy-faced little stick dude running all over this place, being stalky and stealing things. I am confused and slightly amused.

It's still not as funny as this, though: www.tjandamal.com/

April Fools, lol. I considered trolling someone but any ideas I had were lacking that certain something. All I could come up with was going for "Hey guys you know I've been thinking that I've been oppressing myself with all this masculinity, I'm gonna go buy expensive skirts and vote for the Christian conservatives", and that would just have been sad.

My friend was told that she looks very Aryan, though (for clarity: whoever said it wasn't talking about ethnic Aryans but about the white supremacist ideal). It could've been a brilliant prank - I mean, we're talking about someone who thinks Paulo Freire has great ideas about education, can hold a detailed discussion about the oppression of the Sami and watches documentaries about the European Civil War in her spare time because she wants to understand how people can be pushed into such extremes of inhumanity, but also has blond hair, blue eyes and the standard North European features that somehow feature into the Euro-Aryan equation. However, this happened a couple of days ago already. She's not showing signs of getting over it any time soon, so I'm probably going to get to witness a couple more "mine eyes, they be falling out from shock" moments. It's very amusing, especially when we branch over into the part where she's also totally like a Weberian state machine in her manner and looks forbiddingly austere and militant in her gray wool coat. (Hint: not)

Still, I find the whole "Aryan features" thing disturbing, too, when I stop to think about it. Sure, I know that we're talking about a type of appearance that is fairly common where I live, but what came up in the conversation that followed the part with "I don't think I can count this as praise even if I try" was that we both know people who still consider this set of physical features to be especially desirable, yet who never seem to make the connection to the context in which this desirability has been constructed. Pure Aryans versus Icky Brownies.

I always thought that the most fascinating thing about the Nordic appearance was how there's a lot of people whose blond hair tends to darken with age. Thinking about this at length makes me feel like someone came to my sandbox and slimed swastikas all over my toys. In fact, thinking about swastikas makes me feel like somebody happened across a symbol for life and the sun and slimed all over that, which makes the whole thing unpleasant to the second power. It's a lot more vexing a thought than having people automatically connect pentagrams with Satanism. Satanism is morally defensible, after all.

It's April Fools and a Friday and here I am, drinking tea by the computer at home and being unfunny. Story of my life. :D
